Terra Summer Italia is a unique parent-and-child educational travel experience centered around food, its cultivation, preparation, and history, that takes place on a breathtakingly beautiful property in southern Tuscany.
How does that work? You spend two weeks in southern Tuscany with your favorite young adult learning how to cook the local foods and studying their history and traditions.
Terra Summer Italia is an outgrowth of the Terra Summer program, currently located outside Asheville, North Carolina, and of the Terra program under development in Charleston, South Carolina. Through the study, cultivation, and preparation of food, we link and explore academic subjects such as geography and sociology, and we give children ages 11-14 exposure to environmental, social justice, and anthropological issues. We also connect children to the importance of mindfulness and the power of their choices to affect others and the world at large. The program in Italy is rooted in Italian agricultural and culinary traditions and practices.
Terra Summer Italia gives a parent (or a guardian – could be a grandparent or an aunt) a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to bond with a child through a learning experience in a foreign country whose culinary heritage is rich, magical, and delicious. If your child is interested in food and cooking and in the connections that we can make through food, he or she will be doubly interested to learn about Italian food in the hills of Tuscany — with you!
